White Peacock

We have owned peacocks for many years.  We started with a pied peacock which has white feathers mixed in with the beautiful blue and green.  After many years two solid white peafowl were hatched into the family.  These two survived childhood and have matured into adults--one male and one female.  These white peacocks have a genetic mutation called Leucism which causes a lack of pigmentation in its feathers.  White peafowl have blue eyes, unlike Albino animals and birds which have red or pink eyes.

Can you see Jack in the window?

80th Birthday Party

On March 22 of this year, my father turned 80 years old.  Being the curious soul that I am, I decided to look into the history books (internet) to find out what important events occurred in 1934.  It is coincidental given my father's enjoyment of golf that the first Master's Golf tournament began in Augusta, GA.  Franklin D. Roosevelt was the president and Bonnie & Clyde killed 2 police officers and Babe Ruth hits home run #700.  Wow what a year!

Our family celebrated Daddy's birthday at my house recently.  We had a perfect April day in Georgia.  The sun was high with just a few clouds keeping the temperatures warm with cool breezes.  Absolutely perfect!
Enjoy the pictures below.

Birthday Boy and Matthew

We are a family of athletes--so we had to have some form of competition.  I stayed out of this competition so that it wouldn't get really heated.

Three of the five grandchildren were able to come by for a bite to eat.  The other two were working.

Uncle Gerald on the left, Daddy on the right.

Aunt Sammy and Mama joined in for another photo

Carly, Matthew, Coleman, Brody & Shelby
These two were outside telling tall tales.

Barry, Robin and I all took pictures.  Hope to get theirs soon.

We had a great time.

DG Founder's Day Luncheon

Our sweet Caroline graduates from Furman University this spring.  She has been a  member of the DG sorority and this past year served as the president.  Each year the group has a Founder's Day luncheon.  This year the membership had grown so much that it could no longer fit into the meeting room on campus.  It was held in a hotel in downtown Greenville.  It was such a pleasure to be able to attend the luncheon with Caroline.

EC-SAR Yard Sale Part 2

I left out some fun pictures from my post on April 5 about the EC-SAR Yard Sale.  The first picture shows more aptly than words the size and attendance of the sale--

We spotted this happy, smiling EC-SAR volunteer...looks like maybe she didn't get enough sleep?

On the way out we saw this little abandoned boat with a great name.  Looks like a boat who needs a little boy

EC-SAR Yard Sale

EC-SAR (Eckerd College Search and Rescue) is what drew Lainey to Eckerd College in St. Petersburg and how we discovered Isla Del Sol Yacht and Country Club.

Eckerd College is on the bay and has multiple water activities for it's student.  The search and rescue team was formed in 1979 to provide safety services for these activities.  By 1977, EC-SAR was able to give rescue services to the Tampa Bay boating community. In 1980 it was one of the first units to respond to the Sky Bridge disaster.  It has grown into a highly respected organization on the west coast of Florida.

The students who volunteer for this program are trained in technical rescue, boating safety, seamanship, searching, fire fighting,  navigation, medical response, and piloting rescue vessels. The services EC-SAR provide the community are completely free.  Every year EC-SAR has a gigantic marine yard sale to fund the services they provide.  The students reach out to the community for donations to the yard sale, they display, price and work the yard sale that is held the Saturday before their spring break each year.

We arrived at 8:50 to find a line of about 200 people waiting to get inside.  The students  had been there all night guarding the merchandise, setting up and getting ready for the sale.

The guy with the funny hat was announcing how to purchase raffle tickets.  He called out a winner about every half hour.  He also worked the music for the shoppers enjoyment.

It was a great day to buy a windsurfer--

Or a lifejacket

Or a pair of boots...

Or a kneeboard...

or tennis rackets...

or a pair of folding bikes by Dahon!!!

We bought these folding bikes because they are easier to store than the bikes we had on board.  One needs a little work, but hey--that's just another project for Steve on a rainy day.

The sale brought in $50,000 for the team.

So Long Sarasota

We pulled out of the Sarasota Yacht Club in the midst of a slew of kayaks.  We didn't see any of them as we were untying from the dock but then all of a sudden they appeared.  We moved slowly while they scooted in front of and alongside the boat.

Also under the blue skies and cotton candy  clouds we saw this fisherman make a catch.

And this couple enjoying the sunshine...

Too little time in Sarasota--looking forward to our next visit.

St. Armand's Circle

We walked to St. Armand's Circle from the Sarasota Yacht Club.  St. Armand's Circle has been called the Rodeo Drive of Florida.  So can you guess what time we arrived--well before 10:00 a.m. when all the shops open.  Steve has an incredible ability to suggest we visit these fabulous little shopping areas when all the great shops are closed. I plan to return soon with Lainey.

The circle offers a variety of shops, restaurants, galleries, gift shops and salons.

Steve would look good in these pants don't you think?

I need these blue boots!
Just a short walk--2 blocks--is Lido Beach
