Shroud Cay to Norman's Cay

In an effort to show our guests the highlights of the Exumas that we have discovered so far, we are pushing and moving the boat every day.  When we arrived at Norman's, we sent the Robson's and Moreman's out on their own to explore in the dinghy.

 First they had to take a look at the plane crash site and the remains of the Curtiss 3-46 Commando that crashed in the 1980's

Warderick Wells to Shroud Cay

Steve had the boat ready to go by the time we returned from our hike to Boo Boo Hill.  We released the mooring ball and were on the way to Shroud Cay.  Shroud Cay is one of Steve's favorite places to explore.  He loves  to cruise the mangrove creeks in the dinghy and look for sea creatures and birds.  I enjoy getting to the other side to see the pristine beaches.  I am always looking for the perfect word to describe the array of blues, greens and aqua that highlight the water. 

We had to time our trip in the dinghy at high tide--especially since we had to fit 6 people in our dinghy.  It was cozy fit--good thing we are close friends.

 The best way to understand the mangrove creeks is from this view at Camp Driftwood.  The creeks wind  through from one side of Shroud Cay to the ocean side.

April 14 Morning Hike to Boo Boo Hill

Tuesday morning provided a great opportunity to hike Boo Boo Hill.   Steve stayed on board and took care of some housekeeping chores while I got to lead the tour.

Warderick Wells Afternoon Snorkel Adventure April 13

Travel time from Cambridge Cay to Warderick Wells is  not long.  We made it in plenty of time to explore a little but just a little too late for a great snorkel trip.  The current was strong making it difficult but we had fun anyway.  We received our favorite mooring ball again after requesting #17 by radio to the park office.  Unfortunately we snagged the ball, but it came unhooked causing a few tense moments, but we got it all together pretty quickly and received a BRAVO from the boat next door!  They came later in the day for a visit.  After snorkeling, the real action was under the boat.  Dave and Steve were having a grand time taunting the sharks.

The Sea Aquarium

The best snorkeling trip we had on our visit to the Exumas was north of Cambridge Cay in the Exuma Land and Sea Park at the Sea Aquarium.  Steve and I were glad to show our friends this beautiful site to snorkel and we were happy that the weather and tides were conducive for a visit.

Steve and Dave appear to be auditioning for an episode of So You Think You Can Dance Underwater.  They both seem proud of their performances. 

Everyone was captivated by the sea life and the coral displays.  On the return ride to Meandering Joy, we passed by Johnny Depp's island.  We decided to turn down his invitation for us to come visit, our plans to head to Warderick Wells for an afternoon snorkel trip were far more important.

Rachel's Bubble Bath Revisited

Steve dropped off Charlene, Robin and I before he headed to Rocky Dundas.  We had a great time exploring and enjoying the cool water on a hot day.

Sea urchins or urchins are sometimes called sea hedgehogs.  Glad we didn't step on the spines of this critter.  These spines  which protect them from predators can be very painful--they are not however dangerous if removed promptly.    It's hard to know what lies below the surface of the sea--it is fortunate that the water here is clear.
