Dinner in Port Royal

It was low tide when we left Toler's Cove mid morning on Monday.  After traveling 73 miles, we arrived in Port Royal.  We found a restaurant with guess what?  Yep you got it--a free dock.  We have become quite adept at finding free things while living this cruising life.  Anyone who knows Mr. Adventure knows that this is not so wildly unexpected.  We were told to tie off on the inside docks away from the shrimp boats and we could stay the night if they did not have a lot of business.  We arrived at sundown, so we managed to have the dock to ourselves since there is not much boating going on after dark on these particular waters. 

11th Street Dockside overlooks the shrimp docks on Port Royal Sound.  

Steve ordered a dozen raw oysters as an appetizer and then ordered fried shrimp and scallops with a baked potato.  I couldn't resist the shrimp and grits with tasso ham and sauce.  

 The waitress brought out cornbread and Parmesan bread sticks with a garlic butter.  The cornbread was moist and velvety like cake.  I was told that the cook uses a combination of cornbread mix and cake mix to make this great addition to our meal. 

I have never made shrimp and grits but may think about this dish for Thanksgiving for a change of pace.
