Bike Week at Daytona Beach

Bike week in Daytona Beach began officially in 1937 with the Daytona 200 bike race.  We happened to be traveling to Daytona Beach during this week and ran into several  bikers.  Not being a biker, I had to do a little research about this phenomenon. 

Ed Kretz was the first winner of the 3.2 mile race which was conducted on both the road and the beach.  Bike Week has evolved into a ten day festival including a 22 mile leisurely loop ride through the natural beauty of Florida as well as a Treasure Hunt. 

On our stop in St. Augustine, we ran into many bikers!
