Christmas Morning Brunch

For many years we have spent Christmas Day at home.   This year, however, Katy had to work on Christmas Day.  So, we rearranged our celebrations and started perhaps a new tradition.  We went to see Barry and Janet at their new home in Talmo for brunch.  We had hash brown casserole, sausage casserole, banana bread, pigs in a blanket, ham, sausage balls and to top it all off--Barry's Homemade Biscuits.

Barry and I were fortunate to grow up in a family of great cooks.  Our Grandmother's had cooking skills that went beyond ordinary and they passed down these talents to our mother.  Daddy's mom, who we called Grandmother, made delicious cornbread.  Mama's mother, who we called MawMaw, made biscuits.  Her biscuits were so good that she made them for a local restaurant when we were growing up.  Barry learned to make her biscuits.  The only difference is that MawMaw made each biscuit by hand and Barry uses a biscuit cutter.  These delicious biscuits are crispy crusty on the bottom and moist and tender on the inside.

We did make it out of the kitchen finally to open presents and enjoy some family time.  Barry and Janet and their children have moved back to Georgia after years of traveling with the military.  Janet, who is from Michigan, commented to me that the pace here in Georgia is just so much  more relaxed than in Virginia, just outside of D.C. where they lived for the last several years.  They like it here and we are glad to have them back.  Jessica has told us that the people in Georgia are just nicer than anywhere else.  We have to agree with her.  I know they  make the best biscuits.
