San Carlos Bay to Cape Sable

Another early morning for us as we left San Carlos Bay around 6:30.  There wasn't much to see as we headed to the southernmost point of mainland Florida, Cape Sable in Monroe County and part of Everglades National Park.  We saw this tower in the middle of nowhere, but that is about all we saw except for crab pots.

We arrived at Cape Sable around 4:30, anchored with no problem and headed to take Piper for her walk. We saw one other boat anchored nearby.  The beach as this anchorage is spectacular and very private.

We could see a large mound of something from where we got out of the dinghy.  Thinking it was a pile of debris or a large piece of driftwood, we walked toward it.  Sadly we discovered a manatee which had evidently been hit by a boat and washed ashore.  We shouldn't have walked this close because the "no-see-ums" immediately began to feast on us.

Beautiful afternoon at Cape Sable.
