A Nice Day for an Aquarium Visit
The John Pennenkamp Coral Reef State Park, established in 1963 was the first undersea park in the United States. It is adjacent to the Florida Keys National Marine Sanctuary which together cover about 178 square miles. The park is approximately 25 miles long and extends 3 miles into the Atlantic. John Pennenkamp was a Miami newspaper editor who worked diligently to help establish the Everglades National Park.
The park includes spots for tent and RV camping. There is a marina with boat, kayak, and paddleboard rental available. A beautiful beach with clear blue water is perfect for swimming. The visitor center has 30,000 gallon salt water aquarium presenting a perfect indoor activity for a rainy day in Florida.
