Floating Carpets

As we were returning from one of our walks with the dogs we noticed that our path through the water was completely covered by a floating carpet of greenery.  These mats of giant duckweed provide food for ducks, geese and certain fish.  It is harvested in Africa for cattle and pigs.  They are not attached to the riverbed so we were able to power right through making a new pathway.  The winds and storms had moved many of these carpets into the main channel forming islands of greenery.
