Treasure Cay to Great Guana Cay
Great Guana Cay is 5 1/2 nautical miles in length with an almost continuous beach on the Atlantic Ocean side. Settlement harbor is the center of the island populations which has grown from 95 in 1990 to more than 163 in 2000. It is possible to purchase supplies here in Guana, there is a grocery store and a fresh vegetable stand. There are two marinas in Settlement Harbour--Orchid Bay Yacht Club and Guana Hideaways Marina. We are staying at Guana Hideaways. There is a fishing tournament at Orchid Bay that means the marina is loaded with fishing boats. Guana Hideaways is next to Grabbers which overlooks Fisher's Bay for a beautiful sunset. There is a poolside bar/restaurant beside the beach at Grabber's.
We wandered around this small cay on narrow concrete streets. Most people travel by golf cart here or on foot. There are a few vehicles--but just a very few. We walked over to Orchid Bay so Mr. Adventure could look at the fishing boats. The crew of Double Barrel gave him two Mahi steaks!
The temperature is said to be about 75degrees, but it feels much hotter. We tried to stay in until about 3:00, but found that even then, it was too hot to sit on the beach at Grabbers--we had to jump in the pool to cool off.
