Monday, March 9 we left Chubb Cay at 7:00 to cross an area
called the Tongue of the Ocean--that just sounds scary. It is very deep. We knew that the winds were picking up and we
wanted to be across the deepest parts long before the wind started to
blow. We arrived at Lyford Cay, New
Providence about 10:30. On one side of
Lyford Cay is a flashy night spot which looks like something out of a Disney
Caribbean ride.
The middle part of
Lyford Cay is an exclusive subdivision with beautiful homes built out over the
water. On the other end is Jaws Beach
and a back entrance to Clifton Heritage National Park. We worked for two hours getting the anchor to set. We tried three times before Steve took the
dinghy out over the anchor, dove into the water and turned the anchor
over. He yelled back at me to back down
on the engines and the anchor finally set.
The sand was so hard in this place that the anchor wouldn't catch but
just skated on top until Steve manually flipped it over.
On, Tuesday, March 10 we took the dingy over about 8:00 to
walk around the park. The park gates
were locked but that didn't stop us. We
walked about a 1.5 miles before the park security asked us to walk to the real
entrance gate and purchase a pass in the form of an arm bracelet for $2
each. We were asked to wear the
bracelets while in the park .
