December 2, 2012

December 2, 2012

We decided to visit Mayo United Methodist Church this morning.  The service by Reverend Katherine Moore was titled "Whose birthday is it anyway?"  The sermon reminded us to take care not to let the meaning of Christmas get hidden in the business of preparing for Christmas.  It was good to hear and sing Christmas carols.  Also in attendance was a dog named Zeke or Zack.   He was very well behaved during the service.

We visited with Barrie and Mary after the church service and thanked them for all their help.  We hope to see them again while in Florida or perhaps in the Bahamas.  After lunch, Steve ran wires from the television to the engine room, through the galley and to the pilot house.  He got as much done as he could before taking a break and heading to Annapolis.  We went to West Marine, Best Buy, Michaels, and Home Depot for different supplies.

When we returned, Terry had arrived with his friends who are helping him move Providence to Stewart, FL.  The captain for the trip to Charleston for Proud Mary had also arrived.  His name is John Pemberton.  He is a former Fleming owner.  He gave me the names of two marinas that have tennis courts and tennis pros on staff.  I am already planning to make stops at these places.

I took a much needed walk while Steve finished the wiring.  As I was heading back to Burr, I noticed people gathering at the intersections with gifts.  I felt like I was the winner of some great race.  I stopped and talked to a little girl who was about 5 years old.  She told me that Santa was on the way.  He would be riding in a fire truck and I would hear him before I saw him.  I kept walking waiting to see Santa pass by.  I noticed a sign that the local fire department would be driving Santa by to pick up gifts for a local charity.  About 30 minutes after I returned to the boat, I heard and saw the sirens pass over the bridge.
