Wow! It was a great day to be on the water. The temperatures were a comfortable 65 to 70
degrees as we traveled from Charleston at about Mile 465 to Mile 521 on the
Bull River. In Charleston we meandered by the Battery and through the Ashley
River. It was nice to see the waterfront
by boat. We could identify several
landmarks from the water that we have previously visited. We passed under the Wapoo Creek Bridge where
we had to lower our antennae for this 33 foot tall bridge. We passed by the St.
John's Yacht Harbor and Ross Marine before being in an area of mostly secluded
marshes. From the bridge we passed
through Elliott Cut to the Stono River.
Just before Mile 480 on the Stono River we passed under the John F.
Limehouse Bridge that is used to cross over to John's Island.
Along the way a boat named Tardeada (I think) passed us
close enough to yell to us that he had been looking at Flemings for twenty
years. He mentioned Ray at Burr Yacht
Sales in Edgewater. So Ray, if you read
this, you might want to give him a call.
His hailing port is Sullivan's Island. He might be ready now to talk to
you.
We entered the Wadmalaw River near Mile 490 and passed by Wadmalaw
Island.
We came around the back side of
Edisto Island and Little Edisto Island after entering the Dawho River.
After going through Watts Cut, we entered the
South Edisto River which was nice and deep and wide.
Going through Fenwick was tricky because it
was low tide and shallow--very very shallow.
From Fenwick cut we went into the Ashepoo River.
We found shallow water again in the Ashepoo
Coosaw Cutoff.
I don't know how we made
it through this shallow area without running aground, but we did and arrived in
the Coosaw River.
We exited the Coosaw
River into the Bull River just after Mile 420 to find a secluded anchorage on
Wimbee Creek.

The boat behind us at the Cooper River Marina still had their live tree up and decorated! |
