Sapelo Island to St.
Simon's Island
We left the Duplin river after our tour of Sapelo ended about
12:00. Crossing the wide water of Doboy
Sound, we rejoined the ICW at the North River.
We passed Queens Island and Wolf Island which is a national wildlife
refuge. Crossing the Altamaha River and
Sound, we could see Little St. Simons Island on our starboard side. After the One Mile Cut which is exactly what the
name says--a one mile cut--we entered Buttermilk Sound and joined the Mackay river
at about mile 665. We could see St.
Simon's Island. Passing under the St.
Simon's Bridge we crossed the St. Simon's Sound and spotted the anchorage we
wanted to use. The wind was picking up
and we weren't convinced that the holding would be good. Neither of us wanted to worry about holding
in this not so private area, so we headed into Morning Star Marina at Golden Isles.
We took care of laundry since we had shore power, walked
around the docks and visited with a few of the locals before calling it a
night.
I don't know what this is, hoping someone else can tell me |
